Low White Blood Count Precautions

1. To minimize and/or prevent infection in the patient with a low white count, patients with a white blood count of 1,500 or less will be instructed in low white count precautions.

1. Monitor signs and symptoms of infection such as:

1. Elevated Temperature

2.  Achiness

3. Sore throat

2. NO ONE with colds, flu or other communicable diseases will be allowed in the room.

3. No flowers are allowed in the room.

4. No fresh fruits or vegetables are allowed in the room.

5. Anyone having contact with the patient MUST THOROUGHLY wash their hands prior to touching the patient.

6. Visitation MUST be limited to the immediate family.
